La Paz Waterfall Gardens is Costa Rica’s most visited private ecological attraction, offering an unforgettable experience that combines breathtaking natural beauty with rich biodiversity. Located near San Jose, this lush sanctuary is home to some of the most stunning and accessible trails in the country, winding through cloud forests and rainforests that lead to five majestic waterfalls, including the iconic La Paz Waterfall. Along the way, visitors encounter a vibrant ecosystem teeming with life, from colorful orchids and heliconias to a wide array of wildlife in carefully maintained habitats that support environmental education and species conservation.
The reserve features an impressive animal sanctuary that houses over 100 species of rescued wildlife. Guests can interact with nature in unique and memorable ways — hand-feed toucans and hummingbirds, observe titi monkeys, spider monkeys, and sloths, and explore exhibits like the aviary with over 40 bird species, a butterfly garden and lab, serpentarium, and large cat enclosures home to jaguars, pumas, ocelots, and more. Additional highlights include a frog exhibit, displays of tropical flora such as bromeliads, and the House of Peace, which showcases Costa Rican rural culture with domestic animals and a traditional ox cart. Whether you're a nature lover, photographer, or family traveler, La Paz Waterfall Gardens offers a truly immersive and educational experience in the heart of Costa Rica.

I recommend to visit the lapaz garden when you finish your trip in costa rica. It is the opportunity to see the animals you didn t spot in the wildlife...for me i saw toucan birds and jaguar that i didn t see in the national parks...it is not a zoo, the animals you will see are rescued, it is difficult to release them in the wildlife. I enjoyed my visit, it is clean, well oraganized...the buffet is good, the garden is very nice and the waterfall are amazing and not difficult to reach them. Easy level.

The gardens are beautiful with a ton of varieties. Stairs and pathways are very manageable. The sanctuary has a good variety of animals, native to Costa Rica, felines, fox, sloths and monkeys. All 3 varieties of toucans native to Costa Rica are there also. Butterfly garden is beautiful and informative. Reptile building has a huge variety of snakes. The grounds are very easy to walk around.

La Paz Waterfall Gardens blew us away! We did not have this on our original itinerary but decided to go the day prior to leaving CR and was so glad we were able to fit it into. It was truly one of the top highlights of our entire trip. The entire staff there is so pleasant and helpful. We got up close with vibrant toucans, playful monkeys, and even saw big cats like jaguars —all in a beautiful, well-maintained sanctuary. The trails through the forest were lush and peaceful, leading to five absolutely stunning waterfalls. Each one had its own charm, and the views were incredible. Be ready for stairs, but it’s so worth it. This is a must-visit day trip from San José! Arrive early, wear good shoes, and don’t miss the buffet lunch—it’s surprisingly good!

We loved it, and It was definitely a pretty cool place. Excellently cared for, clean, and well maintained and the food was excellent. There’s quite a few things to see. The waterfalls are amazing, I’m not sure ethically how I feel about wild cats and monkeys in captivity (unless they are rescues) but their enclosures were nice and the animals looked well fed. The only thing I can fault the place for is the high cost. The food can be included with the ticket for a little extra more than the ticket, but we paid theme park ticket costs and still had to finish our trip in a tourist trap overpriced store at the end of the park tour.

%100 recommended if you have time in your trip perfect to spend your day. Take your time not rushed.. You can fly drone 🥳 Very organize, easy parking area. Feel is good to be close animals and several waterfalls which you can access in close proximity. When you try to reach waterfalls of course you are going in all the way down but good thing you don’t need to walk back; shuttle bus will take you back from the last fall at the bottom of the hill.
